What 19 momme means
Momme is a weight, not a weave: it is the mass of silk over a fixed area, and 19 is the heavier end of ordinary dress silk. You can feel the difference in your hand before you can see it — a heavier silk falls in straighter folds, creases less at the elbow, and does not go sheer where it stretches over a shoulder. It is also the one claim on a silk listing that a buyer can check for themselves.
Cut like a shirt
A notched lapel, piping carried down the placket and around the cuffs, a patch pocket on the chest: this set is tailored the way a shirt is tailored rather than the way nightwear usually is.
