A strap that crosses twice
Most strappy sandals cross once, over the instep, and then run straight to the ankle. This one crosses over the toes, then crosses again above the vamp, then wraps. That second crossing is what keeps the foot from sliding forward on a 10.5 cm heel — with a single crossing and no ankle strap tension, the toes take the whole load on the down slope. It is a small thing to look at and a large thing to walk in, which is why the buckle matters: a fixed buckle holds the wrap where it was set, and an elastic one slowly gives.
A ground that is never clean
