What corduroy actually is
Corduroy is woven first and cut afterwards. The weft is floated over the surface, then sliced along the length of the cloth to raise a pile in ridges — the wales — which is why the cloth holds shadow, feels brushed along the grain and never looks flat under a light. It is also why corduroy marks: press a fold in and the pile keeps it.
Cut to be worn open
Every frame the stall shot is the same shirt, open, over a white tee, sleeves pushed up. That is not styling — it is the cut: it hangs away from the body, the hem is straight, and there is one patch pocket where a dress shirt would have none. Wear it as a shirt if you like, but it was made as a layer.
Eight colours listed, five photographed
Navy, ivory, black, grey, matcha green, pink, khaki and light blue are on the colour list. Five of them were put on a hanger and photographed: navy, matcha green, light blue, khaki and black. Ivory, grey and pink were not, so they are not offered — a colour nobody photographed is a colour we cannot describe.

Care
- Wash it cool and inside out, and let it dry in the air. Corduroy loses its pile in a hot dryer faster than it wears out anywhere else.
- Do not press the pile flat. Steam it, or iron the inside of the cloth, and brush the wales back up with your hand while it is still damp.
- Hang it rather than folding it. The wales take a crease, and a shirt folded the same way every season ends up with a line across the chest.
